For a start, let’s acknowledge that in the history of art, there are some paintings that speak for themselves and yet others are silent needing for us to decipher them. How then does one go about interpreting these strange works ?
If the canvas is a place where multiple actions manifest themselves rather than a space to depict reality, Heitch does not seek to reproduce images or show the obvious.
Calling on many methods and putting to work the hand, the body and movement, the artist uses all these to tell of experiences, of stories or simply to allude to them ; in this manner the artist invites us to let go of inhibitions and to seek and embrace the forgotten.
Paintings : outlines and clues
Duplication is not the aim but instead hints are given as do artifacts placed in a lounge on return from some voyage or some pilgrimage. It is left to the eye to reconstruct, to rebuild, to continue the story or to process the clues.
But beware, Heitch’s painting brings reduces everything to the level of signs and archetypes; as such a flower becomes a metaphor for plant life. Heitch provides only signs and leaves behind traces that are clues.
